Description
The God Cernunnos is an ancient European god directly associated with divinity, wealth, animals, and hunting. Cernunnos is also indirectly associated with regeneration, healing, fertility and death. In his right hand he carries a torc, an ornate neck-ring used by the Celts to denote nobility. On his left arm, a ram headed snake, which is associated male sexual prowess, fertility and healing. He is often depicted with an oversized, erect penis, as a Pan/Puck creature ever ready for sexual pleasures. The deer head perhaps represents the cycle of fertility, symbolized by the shedding of antlers. Thus, Cernunnos is a symbol of the winter solstice: the regeneration of the sun and renewal of life.
